Writer from The Good Schools Guide visits Beachborough Prep

Posted: 9th July 2024

Back at the beginning of June, Freya Waters, Writer for The Good Schools Guide, visited us at our Prep School near Brackley, Northamptonshire. The reason for the visit was that with one academic year under her belt since Mrs Mitchell had been in position as Head at Beachborough Prep, it was time to update our online website review!

At 10am, the coffee was brewed and the legendary Beachborough shortbread was ready, and we welcomed Freya into school. Mrs Mitchell spoke with her on how the past year has gone, her vision for the future and what quirks she has noticed that are unique to Beachborough.

The next item on the order of the day was for Freya to receive a full tour of the school by two Form VII pupils, with a member of staff accompanying them for support and to act as driver of the school’s caddy car to fully access the 35 acres of grounds and learning spaces, within the allotted time.

Evie W and Ben H did a sterling job of explaining all the specialist learning opportunities and facilities to Freya whilst introducing her to numerous teachers and children along the way. From Early Years to the wetlands to the technology, engineering & design suite, the science labs to the drama theatre, the tour covered the whole school and was a great insight into daily school life at Beachborough Prep.

Mrs Blithe, one half of our Houseparent Team, for our boarding house, Kites, then showed Freya around the flexi-boarding provision and organised a met and greet with our house pet dogs, Arnie and Jethro.

Just before lunch, Freya met with Mr Jackson, Interim Head of Lower School and Mrs Harrison, Deputy Head of Upper School to indulge in, and find out all about, those areas of the school. It was then straight into a working lunch, provided by our in-house catering team and an informal chat with Mrs Mitchell, Deputy Head of school Mr Preece, our SENCO Mrs Dowson, Head of Higher-Level Learners Mrs Exarheas and Mrs Blithe Head of Boarding.

Finally, Freya met with a focus group of children from Form V to Form VIII for a quick-fire Q&A session which was both an insightful experience for them and an opportunity to talk about their school, which the children did with high regard. Freya commented on how happy all the children she had met throughout the day were and, how evident it was that our community was warm, caring and had what is best for the children at the heart of all that happens.

We are so pleased that the ethos of Beachborough Prep was evidenced in this visit from The Good Schools Guide.

We would like to thank Freya Waters for visiting us, we enjoyed showcasing our school and are looking forward to reading our online review soon!
