This term, Beachborough Prep welcomed our new Head of Boardman, Mrs Hannah Tongue who joins us from her former London Prep School, Thomas’s Clapham where she was Head of Lower School for eight years.
Having studied undergraduate Psychology at the University of Birmingham and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education at Cambridge University and most recently, completing her Master of Education in Education Research at Cambridge University, it is safe to say that Hannah joins us with more than a wealth of experience in teaching, leading and qualifications in her beloved passion, education!
Hannah made the move to Beachborough Prep in Northamptonshire with her family, husband Andrew and their two young children after being attracted by the ethos of the school which ultimately instilled a nostalgia of her own days attending a prep school in Somerset.
“The atmosphere at Beachborough Prep reminds me of the leafy prep school I attended. I have such fond memories, and it remains very close to my heart. I want to ensure we encapsulate everything that a prep school should be for our pupils during their time with us, so they too look back on their days at Beachborough Prep and feel their school days with us truly were the very best they could be”.
Academic Provision is extremely important to Hannah, and she is looking forward to supporting Mrs Mitchell and the wider team to take Beachborough onwards and upwards into its next chapter.
“We have so many bright children at Beachborough Prep, and I am looking forward to seeing every child soar by ensuring our curriculum is capturing their imaginations and our expectations for them are high. I will always be seeking to ensure our academic provision is the very best it can be for every pupil, so they are engaged with their own learning journey and are reaching their own potential.”
Community ties and excellent relationships between teachers and pupils as well as all Beachborough Prep families is at the heart of all we do at Beachborough Prep, and Hannah is looking forward to building on these over the coming weeks, learning about each child’s interests, what they enjoy experiencing and what challenges they want to overcome. Hannah will be looking forward to introducing a positive reinforcement model to the Boardman and will be exploring the implementation of a new skills programme, developing our current Intellectual Characteristics to ensure they are age-appropriate for our youngest learners and to help them to develop the skills they need to be adaptable learners in an ever-changing world. Hannah is excited to explore how we can further include our outdoor learning provision within our exceptional 35 acres of woodland, lawns, sports pitches, outdoor classrooms and farmland, developing the children’s love for the outdoors and understanding of the natural world around them.
A strong believer in the science behind Carol Dweck’s Growth Mindset philosophy, Hannah supports the idea that that every person’s basic ability can be enhanced and developed by hard work, challenge and perseverance.
“I want all pupils to celebrate making marvellous mistakes and to see them as a part of their learning journey. Every child should have the opportunity to flourish and find their own greatness. After all, the Beachborough mottos is Conemur Tenues Grandia – although we are small, let us try for great things – I am keen to instil this motto into our youngest learners – I know their capabilities are limitless!”
We are so pleased Hannah has joined the Beachborough Team and she is looking forward to meeting parents and creating close connections over the coming weeks.
