Head Teacher

Head’s Blog

In my opinion, the only way to conquer stage fright is to get up on stage and play. Every time you play another show; it gets better and better.” – Taylor Swift

Watching the children perform is always a source of immense joy. Whether they are presenting, singing, acting, dancing, or playing an instrument, each time they step onto the stage, they are not just entertaining an audience, they are conquering fears, growing in confidence, and proving to themselves that they can rise to the challenge.

As Taylor Swift so aptly puts it, the only way to overcome stage fright is through experience. With every play, assembly, and concert, the children build resilience, self-assurance, and a deep sense of accomplishment.

One of the greatest privileges of being Head of Beachborough is witnessing this journey. These moments shape the children not just as performers, but as individuals who carry their newfound confidence into all areas of life.

This week, I had the pleasure of attending the Spring Concert, where the stage came alive with energy, talent, and passion. The children delivered a remarkable variety of performances, from the vibrant beats of the Chamber Choir singing The Shoop Shoop Song, to the NMc Senior Group’s wonderful rendition of Friday I’m in Love, by The Cure to the beautiful tones of the Flute Ensemble’s Swan Lake. Every act showcased the dedication and enthusiasm of our young musicians.

A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Chatfield and the entire Music Department, as well as everyone who contributed to making this concert such a success.

It was also a delight to watch the exceptional PP2 Assembly! The children took us on an incredible journey across the continents, sharing their discoveries about Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania with such enthusiasm and confidence. Their excitement was truly contagious, and it was wonderful to see them take pride in their learning while performing so beautifully in front of their families. I found myself singing “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” all day!

A huge thank you to the PP2 team for guiding and supporting the children in making this assembly such a memorable experience. And, of course, congratulations to our amazing PP2 learners for their hard work and brilliant performances!

Finally, thank you to everyone who joined us for our Open Afternoon in the Manor House today. It was wonderful to welcome you, and I hope you enjoyed meeting the teachers and seeing all that the children have learned over the past two terms.

Please enjoy a well-deserved rest this holiday and some wonderful family time. Wishing you all a very Happy Easter!

A Sweet Afternoon for Form V

On Friday 21st March, Mrs Andrew’s English class experienced some un-bee-lievable treats, all thanks to Lily S and her family. As part of our work on explanation texts, Lily brought in a beekeeping jacket, honeycomb frames, a beehive smoker, and some wonderful homemade products – made from beeswax – to explain how bees make honey. It brought the learning alive and it was fascinating to hear Lily explain how honey and wax are extracted from the hives. To finish, we all took part in some honey-tasting, experiencing two different (and very delicious!) types of honey. It was delightful, and we are so grateful to Lily and her family for providing us with such an enriching and inspiring afternoon!

U8 Netball

Our U8 girls closed their netball season with a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon playing a triangular against Kitebrook and Akeley Wood. They worked hard on both their attacking and defensive skills, and it was wonderful to see the progress they have made over the last few weeks. Next year, they will be able to build on these important foundations as they progress into Form IV.

The Outdoor Toy Box

As you may know, Beachborough Friends recently purchased a box of outdoor toys containing: bats and balls, footballs, frisbees, skipping ropes, hula hoops and other fun outdoor toys for our children to play with after school!

The idea was to keep children entertained after school, so that parents can enjoy catching up with each other and enjoy this lovely weather! It has been absolutely wonderful to watch children across all age groups playing together outside, and parents coming together to catch up after school in the beautiful grounds. We have received lots of feedback through our reps that this has been a very welcome addition, and we hope that our community to will continue to enjoy this over the summer term.

In case you’ve missed it, the black storage box is located between the bridge and play ground and is stocked up and ready to use! We would be grateful if you could encourage children who have used the toys to return them to the box so they are kept safe and dry! Finally, if you happen to have any outdoor toys you are able to donate, please do get in touch via your class rep.

Fundraising for Mary’s Meals

Eliza B (FVII) recently wrote a letter of application to Mixbury Association to nominate Mary’s Meals for a charity award. From this, Eliza managed to secure a £200 charitable donation from the association themselves. This will enable 10 pupils at our sponsored school in Malawi, Nthola Primary, to receive a daily mug of vitamin enriched porridge for a whole year. Thank you, Eliza!

Rosalie B (FIV) has also raised £48.10 for Mary’s Meals, by donating money from her piggy bank and the Tooth Fairy, alongside selling unwanted clothes – well done, Rosalie!

Form 7 & 8 Netball Team Wraps Up a Fantastic Season!

Our U13C netball team celebrated a fantastic journey of growth and teamwork this season! Throughout the term, the players have worked incredibly hard to refine their passing accuracy, defensive positioning, and shooting consistency. Their determination and commitment have truly paid off, with noticeable improvements in their tactical awareness and overall gameplay.

There have been many highlights, including some nail-biting matches where their resilience and teamwork shone through. From impressive interceptions to well-executed attacking plays, the team has demonstrated great progress and sportsmanship. It has been a pleasure to coach such a dedicated group of players, and I couldn’t be prouder of their achievements. Well done to everyone!

Gerry and Ginger Ballet Awards

Parents were invited to attend the Gerry and Ginger ballet awards on Monday 24th March, allowing our children in Nursery, Kindergarten and Reception to showcase all that they have learnt in their ballet lessons.

The children have been working incredibly hard, alongside their teacher Mrs Boardman, to perfect their ballet technique and positions – concentrating on their pointe, plié, and posture. At the end of their heart-warming performance, the children were given certificates and rosettes in recognition of their hard work and dedication.

Well done, everybody!

The Formal Dinner and Dance

On Friday 21st March, our FVI, FVII and FVIII boarders were invited to attend the Formal Dinner and Dance – a firm favourite in the calendar!

The children dressed to impress and looked spectacular! Photos were followed by a three-course meal, chosen by the children themselves, and a disco concluded the evening.

A huge thank you to Houseparents, Mr and Mrs Blithe, for organising yet another unforgettable experience for our boarders!

A link to all photos taken from at event can be found here.

Parents v Children Matches!

On Thursday evening, our FVIII parents, along with staff, had the opportunity to play against the children in a netball and football match.

Effort Grade Lunch

On Monday afternoon, a select group of children from Forms III-VIII were invited to attend this term’s Effort Grade Lunch!

We are proud of the effort that they put into their work and everyday school life, and see this as a wonderful way to reward those who’ve worked exceptionally hard throughout the spring term.

Well done to all of our Beachburians who were invited this time around, and we are looking forward to celebrating with more of our children in the summer term.

History Made at Beachborough Prep

In a groundbreaking moment for Beachborough School, history was made as the first-ever girls’ rugby match took place on 27th March 2025. The event was nothing short of electrifying, as the girls threw themselves into the game with passion, determination, and an unwavering team spirit that set the tone for an unforgettable day.

Most of the school turned out to show their support, with students, staff, and faculty lining the sidelines, creating a vibrant atmosphere that could be felt across the pitch. The energy and enthusiasm were palpable, as the school’s first female rugby players showcased their skills in what was a fiercely contested match.

From the very first whistle, both teams gave it their all, displaying impressive teamwork, speed, and resilience. The match saw end-to-end action, with both sides scoring tries in rapid succession. The game was fast, physical, and full of heart, as the girls demonstrated that they were more than capable of competing at the highest level.

The final score of 19 tries to 18 reflected just how tight the contest was. It was a real battle of wills, with each try pushing the game further into nail-biting territory. The crowd cheered wildly, adding to the tension and excitement with every near miss and successful try.

While the result was incredibly close, the true victory was in how the girls embraced the challenge, giving their all for the entire match. Their courage, skill, and sportsmanship were evident from start to finish, and the support from the school community made the event even more special.

At the final whistle, the girls were met with cheers and applause from every corner of the field. They had not only made history by playing in the first-ever girls’ rugby match at Beachborough School but had also shown what true sporting spirit looks like.

As all the teams celebrated, it was clear that this match was more than just a game – it was a stepping stone for the future of girls’ rugby at the school, inspiring others to pick up the ball and follow in their footsteps. The players proved that with determination and support, anything is possible.

Congratulations to all the players involved for making history, and here’s to many more rugby matches in the future!

The Maidwell Chase

The school’s cross country season finished last Friday with the annual Maidwell Chase, the last of its kind to be held at the school due to its imminent closure in July 2025. The event enabled us to field some of our younger runners in Forms III and IV, some of whom were competing for the first time at a cross country meeting, and they all acquitted themselves excellently across the 1km course. Hermione S ran a particularly strong race to win the U9 girls’ event with Jack S finishing 3rd in the boys’ equivalent. Our U11 and U13 runners are that much more experienced and used all of their nous and race tactics to record some impressive results. William G and Josh S both defended their U11 and U13 boys’ titles respectively in each of their races and Kit S, as captain, continued his firm form this season with another strong run to finish 6th. Kit also had the opportunity to pick up the U13 boys’ team trophy with our collection of finishing positions from fellow members Josh, Jake T, Liam H and Alex H enabling us to come out on top in the overall standings.

A wonderful way for Josh, Kit and Jake to bow out after their sterling service to the school’s cross country programme over many years and overall, a strong showing from all of our runners in the final ever Maidwell Chase.

Wear A Hat Day 2025

On Friday 28th March, we took part in the annual Brain Tumour Research ‘Wear A Hat Day’!

This year, we were lucky enough to be joined by CEO of BTR, Dan Knowles, and Community Fundraising Officer, Emma Jolly. The morning began with the whole school collating on the Front Lawn, ready to parade and show off all of their wonderful creations.

Dan spoke to the school and thanked us for all of the fantastic fundraising we have been doing this month, followed by a Q&A session with 25 selected children in the Whybrow Theatre. A series of thought-provoking questions were asked, and it gave the children the chance to learn more about why Brain Tumour Research is so important, and the wonderful work that they do. Dan was also asked some personal questions, which included the reasons for choosing to pursue this career.

We were thrilled to see everybody sporting their best head-wear, and we’re extremely thankful to Dan and Emma for joining us for one of our favourite fundraising events!

Exciting Lacrosse Coaching Session!

We were extremely fortunate to have had some special guests visit our school recently! Tudor Hall’s expert Lacrosse coaches, Lauren Amos and Neil Busby, came in to lead another fantastic coaching session for our pupils. This unique opportunity allowed our children to gain valuable insight and skills from a professional who brings a wealth of experience to the sport.

The session was full of energy, with students diving into drills, learning new techniques, and developing their understanding of the game. The highlight of the evening was not just the expert coaching but also the presence of Tudor Hall’s First Team girls, who are ranked in the top 25 nationally in lacrosse and Evie, an ex-Beachburian! These talented players helped coach our pupils, providing personalised tips and sharing their passion for the sport. Their involvement made the session even more special, offering a fantastic opportunity to learn directly from some of the best young players in the country.

A huge thank you to Tudor Hall’s lacrosse coaches and First Team girls for making this experience possible. We feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to learn from such talented and inspiring athletes. We look forward to continuing our lacrosse journey, building on the skills and enthusiasm sparked by this incredible session!

The Young Enterprise Easter Project

In recent weeks, The Young Enterprise team have made hand-knitted Easter bunnies to fundraise for Mary’s Meals.

On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, they had the opportunity to sell their bunnies, along with many other Easter gifts that they kindly chose to provide. This proved hugely successful as they sold out of everything, and managed to raise a fantastic £146.65 for Mary’s Meals.

Well done on another wonderful initiative, YE!
